The problem
Football club Zennester in Hombeek has a long tradition. With its 12 youth teams containing almost 160 youth players and still rising, it’s the largest youth association in Hombeek. Many substantial investments are done to improve their facilities. Recently, a magnificent building was erected, named the “Chalet”, in which the cafeteria is located on the first floor. The large windows or the beautiful terrace offer a great vantagepoint for all the football pitches.
The cafeteria’s modern design included modern furniture and a concrete floor. The large windows and the concrete floor form a large, smooth surface, ideal for sound to reflect unobstructed. This resulted in a lot of reverberations, causing visitors to have intelligibility issues at busy times. Attending a dinner party, watching a football game or analysing the past game, tired the people instead of relaxing them.
